I feel that this blog is appropriate especially as there is a lot of conflicting information in the industry involving the Level 3 Award in Education and Training.

The Level 3 Award in Education and Training formerly known as the AET. This course is designed to get qualified professionals to enter into the world of teaching. This is a foundation course to get you into teaching within any vocational sector not just the Hair & Beauty sector, as long as you have a minimum of 3 years practical experience in the subjects you wish to teach and are 19 or older. Within this course you will learn everything you need to know about being an educator.

The level 3 Award in Education and Training is an introductory, knowledge-based teaching qualification, which prepares you for teaching, or training in a wider context. The course is fully accredited by Sunshine and mapped to the National Occupational Standards. This course is perfect if you want to teach short, accredited courses. So, if you want to run your own training academy or work alongside a company offering accredited courses this is the course for you.

Upon successful completion you will be awarded a

Level 3 Award in Education and Training, Accredited by Sunshine

This is an online course, which we have broken down into three units:

Unit 1: Understanding roles, responsibilities and relationships in education and training

Unit 2: Understanding assessment in education and training

Unit 3: Understanding and using inclusive teaching and learning approaches.

The units above are written and carried out online. You submit each unit for assessing these units then get assessed against the assessment criteria set by the awarding body. You will also have a micro teach to do.

What does a micro teach mean?

A micro teach is where you demonstrate your practical teaching skills.  It also gives you the knowledge and practical skills on how to deliver a training course. It’s a great way to get hands on experience.

What is a Lesson Plan?

A lesson plan is what the trainer/educator uses when delivering a training course. It is a detailed account of how the lesson should run. It is an important part of the lesson, it also gives you a quick refresh and reminds you to stay on track and what resources to use. This is part of the Level 3 Award in Education and Training which will prepare you for your micro teach.

Sunshine also offers an Ofqual regulated version of the Level 3 Award in Education and Training, this is the exact same however it goes off for final verification to the awarding body which is Qualsafe.
